The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued the following statement on the Rio Grande Valley Conditions:
A cold front is expected to reach the northern ranchlands around daybreak this morning and should move through the Rio Grande Valley and off the lower Texas coast early this afternoon. Ahead of the front, shallow moisture, very light winds and drier air aloft have allowed areas of fog to develop across portions of Deep South Texas early this morning. Surface observations indicate visibilities ranging between 1 to 3 miles with isolated visibilities of 1/2 mile or less. A Dense Fog Advisory may be needed in the few hours if visibilities continue to drop.
Otherwise, ample moisture (PWATs between 1.5 to 2 inches) will support isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms along and ahead the front later today. The best rain chances will be across
Cameron and Willacy Counties and over the Gulf waters. High temperatures today are expected to reach the mid to upper 60s across the northern ranchlands to the lower 70s across the Rio Grande Valley. However, as cold air advection arrives, temperatures should fall into the 60s areawide by late this afternoon. There is a medium chance (30 to 50 percent) of winds of 40 mph or greater along the coast tonight into Wednesday Morning. Therefore, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 3 PM today until 4 AM Wednesday. However, latest model guidance is trending towards lower wind speeds inland for today and tonight. so, with high winds expected near the coast, 35 to 45 mph, and lower winds inland. Some adjustments may be needed to the Wind Advisory.
Surface high pressure builds into the region tonight. Overnight lows should fall into the upper 30s to the lower 40s across the northern ranchlands, the mid 40s across the Rio Grande Valley and the lower 50s along the coast. Breezy north winds will support feel like temperatures near freezing across the northern ranchlands and the upper 30s to around 40 for the Rio Grande Valley.
High pressure settles across the region on Wednesday with below normal temperatures. Highs on Wednesday will be in the low to mid 60s.
There is a moderate rip current risk through this afternoon. There is a high rip current risk and a high surf advisory in effect for tonight and Wednesday.
