LA JOYA, Texas – Border Patrol agents rescue an illegal alien who nearly succumbed to the extreme heat and humidity of South Texas.

Yesterday afternoon, McAllen agents on patrol near the Rio Grande in La Joya, Texas, encountered a Mexican national who advised agents that his brother was in need of emergency medical assistance. The Mexican national led agents through the dense brush where they found the man unconscious and unresponsive to stimulus. Agents carried the man out of the brush and under the instruction of a Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technician; agents removed the man’s clothing to bring the man’s temperature down. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived and administered multiple intravenous bags of fluids after agents requested their assistance. EMS transported the man to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

This fiscal year, the Rio Grande Valley Sector has rescued 222 people from the dangers of traveling illegally through South Texas.
