EDINBURG, Texas – Since Friday, Border Patrol arrested 16 illegal aliens after agents foiled three human smuggling attempts.

On Friday, Brownsville agents received information of a red sedan picking up several suspected illegal aliens near the Rio Grande. Shortly after, agents in the area observed a red Toyota Corolla sedan in the area. As a Border Patrol agent approached, the vehicle drove through a red light in an attempt to abscond. The driver then pulled the vehicle off the road and several subjects were seen exiting. The vehicle then sped off again. Agents conducted a thorough search of the area and located two illegal aliens as well as the Toyota, which was abandoned nearby.

That same day, Rio Grande Valley Sector agents working on Highway 281 near San Manuel, Texas, attempted to conduct an immigration inspection on the passengers of a white Ford F-150. Before agents could initiate a traffic stop, the driver of the F-150 pulled over and several subjects exited the vehicle and fled into the nearby brush. Agents searched the immediate area and arrested seven illegal aliens. The subjects are from the countries of Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.

On Sunday, agents working near Los Ebanos, Texas, arrested seven illegal aliens after a failed smuggling attempt.

Border Patrol processed the subjects accordingly.

The public is encouraged to take a stand against crime in their communities and report suspicious activity at 800-863-9382.

Even with the spread of the COVID-19 virus, human smugglers continue to try these brazen attempts with zero regard for the lives they endanger nor to the health of the citizens of our great nation.  The U.S. Border Patrol agents of the Rio Grande Valley Sector will continue to safeguard the nation and community against these criminal elements.
