EDINBURG, Texas – Since Sunday, Border Patrol agents have halted four human smuggling attempts, which resulted in the arrest of 24 illegal aliens.

On Monday, Kingsville Border Patrol agents on Highway 77 attempted to conduct a vehicle stop near Bishop, Texas. The light-colored Chevrolet Tahoe failed to yield to the agent’s emergency lights and traveled a short distance before abruptly stopping. Shortly thereafter, all the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled. Agents searched the immediate area and arrested six illegal aliens from the countries of El Salvador and Honduras.

Two days later, McAllen agents working near Sullivan City, Texas, observed a white Chevrolet Tahoe pick up multiple subjects at a well-known human smuggling location. Agents attempted to conduct a vehicle stop, but the driver failed to yield to the agent’s emergency lights. The vehicle traveled west on Expressway 83 before traveling north on El Pinto Road. Shortly thereafter, with the help of a Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine air asset, CBP agents observed the vehicle stop and several subjects exit in an attempt to abscond. Arriving agents searched the area and arrested four illegal aliens from the countries of Mexico, Ecuador, and Honduras.

Additionally, since last Sunday, agents arrested 14 illegal aliens in two separate human smuggling events.

Border Patrol is processing all subjects accordingly.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector currently has multiple campaigns focused on rescues and danger awareness, such as “Operation Big Rig” and “No Se Arriesgue” to combat smuggling and ultimately save lives. Call 911 to report suspicious activity; “They’re humans, not cargo!”
