EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol agents arrest a Mexican national with a murder conviction and stop two marijuana smuggling attempts.
Last night, agents assigned to the Fort Brown Border Patrol station working in Brownsville, Texas, apprehended a subject after he illegally crossed the Rio Grande into the United States. Record checks revealed the Mexican national was previously arrested by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department in 1991 and subsequently convicted of murder. He received a sentence of 15 yrs. confinement. The subject also has significant criminal history with additional arrests for burglary, assault on a peace officer, and driving while intoxicated.Â
The Border Patrol referred the subject for Federal prosecution.
Additionally, agents from the Rio Grande City and Brownsville stations seized more than 170 lbs. of marijuana in two separate incidents. In the first event, agents working near La Casita, Texas, discovered abandoned bundles of marijuana. A search for the smugglers yielded negative results. In the second event, agents arrested two Mexican nationals attempting to smuggle marijuana into the United States. The subjects were apprehended shortly after crossing into the United States near Brownsville, Texas.
