According to AP, the Republicans in Congress are pushing legislation to block federal funding and tax-exempt status for nonprofits accused of aiding illegal immigrants.
Senator Bill Hagerty’s Fixing Exemptions for Networks Choosing to Enable Illegal Migration Act would revoke tax exemptions for such organizations. At the same time, Congressman Lance Gooden’s Protecting Federal Funds from Human Trafficking and Smuggling Act would require NGOs to certify they are not assisting illegal immigration.
