WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Filemon Vela (D-TX) announced that the Vietnam Veteran Pinning ceremony scheduled for next week in Raymondville, TX is postponed to a to-be-determined date.
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus, COVID-19, a pandemic. To lessen the spread of the virus, it has been recommended to limit social contact and attendance at large social gatherings. For this reason, the decision was made to postpone the Vietnam Veteran Pinning Ceremony. The Congressman looks forward to properly honoring these brave veterans in the near future.
“Out of an abundance of caution for our brave Vietnam Veterans and their loved ones, we are postponing the Raymondville Pinning Ceremony scheduled for March 18th,” said Congressman Vela. “The health and safety of the Rio Grande Valley is my top priority.
“As we learn more about this pandemic, I want to assure everyone in the district that I am doing everything in my power to mitigate the impact of this virus.
“I look forward to rescheduling this event and properly recognizing our Vietnam Veterans once large public gatherings are deemed safe.”
