Austin, Texas – State Representative Sergio Muñoz, Jr. took the oath of office Tuesday at noon for his third term in the Texas House of Representatives. Family, friends, and constituents of District 36 traveled to the Texas Capitol to join Representative Muñoz and his colleagues for the first day of the 84th Legislative Session. Rep. Muñoz was also awarded the high honor of being appointed to the committee to notify the Texas Senate that the House is organized and ready to transact business.
District 36 and the Rio Grande Valley region greatly benefited from Rep. Muñoz’s advocacy in the 83rd Legislative Session. Continuing the momentum and success of the past two legislative sessions, Rep. Muñoz is confident that the Valley will continue to prosper from the work done this Legislative Session.
Rep. Muñoz pre-filed legislation this 84th legislative session: HB 391, HB 432, and HJR 51. HB 391 will implement the much needed full day Pre-Kindergarten throughout Texas. In support of our veterans, Rep. Muñoz filed HB 432 and HJR 51, allowing property tax exemptions for spouses of disabled veterans. Although Rep. Muñoz has pre-filed legislation, he plans to file several more bills that will be announced in the near future. “I am excited to begin my third term embracing issues so close to my heart and important to the District and state of Texas,” said Muñoz. Through his proven leadership and experience, Rep. Muñoz will continue working with his esteemed colleagues to shape the future of our community.
Rep. Sergio Muñoz, Jr. has served in the Texas Legislature since 2011 and represents all or parts of the cities of Hidalgo, Granjeno, McAllen, Mission, Palmview and Pharr.
