WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz (TX-15) announced the bipartisan passage of H.R. 7480, the Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act. It is her sixth bill to pass the House of Representatives.
De La Cruz’s legislation, which passed Wednesday, ensures that service-connected disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs is excluded from income calculations when requesting assistance under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.
“Our veterans have sacrificed so much for our nation, and this legislation removes barriers to housing assistance for those with service-connected disabilities,” De La Cruz said. “This is about ensuring equity and access for our heroes.”
H.R. 7480 will:
- Enhance Housing Accessibility: Veterans with disabilities can more easily qualify for housing programs.
- Promote Equity: Aligns the treatment of veteran benefits across the CDBG program.
- Provide Accountability: Requires a report to Congress on how service-connected disability compensation is treated across HUD programs to improve access for our veteran populations.
“This is a victory for our veterans and reflects our nation’s values,” said Rep. De La Cruz. “I am grateful to my colleagues for their support in advancing this important bill.”
