WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement on the passing of Representative John D. Dingell Jr. of Michigan, the longest serving Member of Congress:

“Chairman John Dingell was a war hero, public servant, and loving husband and father. Over the course of his 59 years of service, the American people along with members of the House of Representatives witnessed his unyielding commitment and dedication to the betterment of our country.

I saw firsthand not only his devotion to the people of Southeast Michigan but also the respect that he had earned over decades of public service from his peers on both sides of the aisle and in both houses of Congress.

I am proud to have known him and to have served with him. As elected officials, the best we can hope for is to do enough good while in office so that we’re able to help those in need and give a voice to those who lack one. Congressman Dingell accomplished that and so much more.

As we mourn his passing, I extend my condolences to his beloved wife Rep. Debbie Dingell, and the entire Dingell family.”
