Washington, D.C. — Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) released the following statement on the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) announcement to provide disaster assistance to individuals affected by flooding in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Thousands of homes and communities need to be rebuilt and restored after the severe flooding in the Rio Grande Valley,” said Congressman Cuellar “After thorough evaluation and pressure from state and federal officials, FEMA has activated much-needed funding so Texans can pay for temporary housing, home repairs, and other serious disaster-related expenses not met by insurance programs. I will continue to work on the federal, state, and local level until every family and community in the Rio Grande Valley has fully recovered.”
More than $11 million in disaster grants have been approved for Texas homeowners and renters who sustained uninsured or underinsured losses from the storms. That total includes more than $5.2 million in housing grants for people to assist in rebuilding or repairing their homes and to provide a safe place to stay while they consider long-term housing options.
A State/Federal Disaster Recovery Center is now open in Hidalgo County. It is open every day from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM until further notice.
