Providing federal employees with steady paychecks

WASHINGTON — Congressman Cuellar (TX-28) will support a legislative package that will be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives, which will reopen the federal government and end the Trump Shutdown. The legislative package consists of two components, each of which will be voted on separately in the House on Thursday.
As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, the Congressman understands the importance of keeping the federal government open. The first is a package of six appropriations bills (see attachment below) that have been approved on a bipartisan basis in the Senate (four on the Senate floor on a 92-6 vote, and two in the Senate Appropriations Committee, on a 31-0 and 30-1 vote). The second is a Continuing Resolution for Homeland Security that will extend current levels of funding for that department through February 8.
Congressman Cuellar said, “Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Border Patrol agents to discuss concerns over the government shutdown. I also spoke with Transportation Security Administration officers and other federal employees to discuss how the shutdown has negatively affected their duties and operations at the border.
“My conversations with these individuals highlighted the urgency for the President to sign full-year appropriations, keeping the federal government open and properly funded. Federal agencies and their employees rely on federal monies that provide essential resources and steady paychecks.
“As we enter the 116th Congress, the new Democratic majority will make it a top priority to end the Trump Shutdown by passing legislation that will reopen the federal government without including funding for a senseless border wall. This comprehensive package reflects democratic priorities, providing vital resources to federal agencies and the people that depend on them. I am encouraged to see that this bill has already garnered bipartisan support in the Senate, and I will continue to work across the aisle to ensure its successful passage in the House.”
