Laredo, TX — Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) encourages Texas families to participate in the Sales Tax Holiday from Friday, August 9 at 12:01 AM to Sunday, August 11 at 11:59 PM this year. Eligible items, including clothes, footwear, and school supplies, can be purchased without paying sales tax this upcoming weekend. In 1999, as a Texas State Legislator, Congressman Cuellar co-sponsored the legislation that created the Sales Tax Holiday to help families save money on back-to-school clothes and supplies.
“The annual Sales Tax Holiday makes important back to school items more affordable for Texans as they prepare for the new school year,” said Congressman Cuellar. “As a Texas State Legislator, I worked to create this holiday where goods such as clothing and school supplies would not be subject to sales tax so families could feel less of an economic burden when back-to-school shopping. I hope all Texas families take advantage of the savings this weekend while supporting Texas businesses. In Congress, I will continue to make sure our nation’s children have the necessary resources and funding to thrive in their classrooms.”
Most school supplies, clothing, and footwear under $100 are eligible for exemptions of state taxes this upcoming weekend. To see more information on Texas’s Sales Tax Holiday as well as a detailed list of tax-exempt items, click here.
