Sullivan City, TX – Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $3,539,318 in secured federal funding for the City of Sullivan El Faro Road Flood Mitigation Project. This project will support upgrades to El Faro Road and the drainage infrastructure. It will also help alleviate areas prone to heavy flooding within the community and restore damaged infrastructure that is critical to the safety and wellbeing of the community.
“Investing in road maintenance will make a meaningful contribution to the economic and social development of Sullivan City,” said Congressman Cuellar. “By abbreviating hazardous and deteriorating infrastructure, we can keep our constituents safe. This appropriations earmark addresses the needs of rural America, and I am proud to have championed – and delivered – this favorable investment for my district. As a member of the Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, I will continue to advocate for community infrastructure investments that will directly improve the well-being and health of my constituents and their localities.”
More specifically, the project will fund upgrades to the roadway and drainage system along the El Faro Road corridor and adjacent connectors which will address higher year rainfall events and reduce flooding. The road will also be widened from a narrow 2-lane roadway to include an additional lane for left turns. Lastly, the funding will support the addition of a 1.4 miles hike/bike trail.
