HIDALGO – As Texans celebrate with friends and family this holiday season, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is urging everyone to drive like a Texan and always get a sober ride.

There were more drunk driving crashes during the holidays in 2024 than any other time of year. More than 2,000 families dealt with the aftereffects of a drunk driving crash. These deadly crashes are completely preventable, so TxDOT is asking drivers to show kindness and courtesy on the road and look out for their neighbors by getting a sober ride.

This holiday season, TxDOT is partnering with Walmart on an interactive mobile exhibit that will tour areas with high numbers of deadly drunk driving crashes. The festive decor and engaging activities on its “Holiday DWI Not So Funhouse” help engage and educate people about the dangers of drinking and driving as they prepare for holiday celebrations.
