EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg Police Department, in collaboration with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), is hosting a DWI Awareness Press Conference on Aug. 9 at 10 a.m.
With 225 DWI arrests recorded in the City of Edinburg from January to July 2023 and the recent heart-wrenching incident where a suspected drunk driver claimed the lives of four members of a Valley family, this press conference holds immense significance in addressing the pressing issue of impaired driving and its devastating impact on the community.
The goal of the press conference is to raise public awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving and to foster a community-wide commitment to responsible decision-making and safer roads.
“Our partnership with Mothers Against Drunk Driving and the DA’s office is a testament to our dedication to safeguarding the well-being of every Edinburg resident,” Police Chief Jaime Ayala said. “Together, we stand united to combat the menace of drunk driving, protect innocent lives, and create a safer environment for all. Let us work hand-in-hand to prevent these preventable tragedies.”
Community members, local leaders, and the media are invited to attend this crucial DWI awareness press conference.
