AMERICAN RED CROSS – Hurricane Idalia made landfall in Taylor County, Florida and moved northeast through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. More than 100,000 people are without power from the storm. Currently, Idalia is bringing heavy rainfall and flash flooding to portions of the Carolinas. The Red Cross pre-positioned more than 400 disaster responders and truckloads of supplies to support the communities impacted. Two volunteers from The Texas Gulf Coast Region will be heading to Tallahassee today and tomorrow to help those in need.
Our top priority is providing comfort, support and relief services to people in the path of this storm. Tuesday night, almost 5,000 people found a safe place to stay in 111 evacuation shelters across Florida. Of these, the Red Cross is directly managing 17 shelters with more than 500 residents seeking refuge in them. We are working closely with our partners and local officials to ensure help is available when and where people need it most.
