McAllen, TX – Hidalgo County Precinct 4, Commissioner Ellie Torres in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the City of McAllen, will break ground to widen FM 676 (Mile 5) also locally known as Auburn Ave. Roadway construction plans are to widen FM 676 to a 4 lane divided facility in northwest McAllen, between FM 2220 (Ware Road) and Taylor Road. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10AM.
The construction of this project officially started on July 8, 2024. During the first phase of this project, contractors will construct a temporary irrigation bypass as well as constructing an irrigation siphon structure that will replace the existing irrigation bridge. The construction of this phase is expected to be completed by December 2024. Once the construction in this phase is completed, FM 676 will be open to traffic while the contractor works on drainage items. Overall completion of the FM 676 roadway widening between FM 2220 (Ware Road) and Taylor Road is expected in the Summer of 2026.
“I am excited to see this project commence. This project has been an ongoing effort to afford a safer and more efficient passage of our residents traveling between northwest McAllen and the City of Alton. I am extremely grateful and proud of the partnership and collaboration put into this project,” said Hidalgo County Commissioner Ellie Torres.
