It is uplifting to hear about people helping each other in times of need. This past year has been filled with:
- The City of McAllen welcomed Martinez Furniture and Appliance and Vital Church to McAllen City Hall, who announced a donation of gifts to McAllen police officers. “I am always in awe of the incredible generosity of our local business owners and community leaders, especially as they seek to honor those who selflessly and bravely serve our city every day,” said McAllen Mayor Jim Darling.
- Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, M.D. and the Pharr City Commission recognized six first responders from the city for their efforts against COVID-19 while assisting the State of Texas Emergency Management Taskforce in El Paso. “Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, for your great work, I know you put your lives at risk out there every single day and we are appreciative of the great work you did in assisting the City of El Paso,” said Mayor Hernandez.
- Congratulations to the 2020 Women’s Council of Realtors Governing Board of Directors for their commitment and dedication to the organization. In the midst of the pandemic, the Women’s Council of Realtors was proactive in producing programs to benefit members such as free continuing education courses. Linda Tovar, H-E-B Senior Manager of Public Affairs has dedicated countless hours to advocate for education and health with community events including the Edinburg 10k, Edinburg Cares Drive, and the Texas Cook’Em Veteran Scholarship.
- “The Edinburg Rotary donated a truckload of toys to make sure that the kids who are in the South Texas Health System Children’s Hospital in Edinburg during the holidays have at least one toy to brighten their day,” said Rotarian Tim Smith. “It is imperative that we try to meet the needs of our children in the community.”
- Vantage Bank Texas sponsored a $20,000 gift to Teach For America Rio Grande Valley to support the organization in adapting and innovating its program to meet the needs of all students during a challenging school year. More than 50 corps members and 200 alumni of Teach For America are teaching and serving in other educational roles throughout the Rio Grande Valley this fall reaching thousands of students. “When our communities need us, Vantage Bank Texas, is here to help,” said Jim Collins, Chairman of the Board.
It feels good to leave behind a year filled a pandemic and all the changes that it forced on our lives. We look to the future and enjoying good health and not to mention prosperity enjoyed in peace and brotherhood.
