Ogletree started working in the construction field under his sixteen-year-old brother. He was only fourteen at the time, and his brother paid him a portion of his check depending on how much work Ogletree had performed. “He had control over what I got paid. I’ve been working in the industry since then,” he said.

McAllen- On Monday, June 27, 2022, at the city commissioner’s meeting, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos proposed some tax relief for McAllen’s residents. He explained the city has worked under a tight budget and is being frugal with spending, but the city has done well. “A couple of weeks ago, we gave our employees a bit of assistance.” He said, “I have directed our city manager to look into the possibility of a little tax relief. I am hoping and think we may be able to do it.”
Mayor Villalobos mentioned that the meeting had a lot of essential items for discussion, among them, this one item was the most important. “Our task is to ensure taxpayers’ money is managed properly.” Read the full story inside.
Mission- On a historic note, congratulations to the City of Mission on the results of the recent election. Former Councilwoman for Place 3, Norie Gonzalez Garza, won the election and was sworn in as mayor.
Gonzalez Garza, a lifelong resident of the municipality, is the first woman to be elected mayor of the City of Mission. More details inside.
Going International – South Texas College is extending its workforce development training and services for the first time ever to manufacturers south of the border.
STC has been trying to work with the maquiladoras (factories) in Mexico for some time and had hired a Global Market Development Coordinator to help with new initiative.
Luisa Fernanda Rodriguez was hired as STC’s new Global Market Development Coordinator in January. Full details inside.
Harlingen- Texas State Technical College alumna Dora Vasquez, a former Harlingen resident earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mechatronics Technology from TSTC in May.
She accepted an electrician internship six months ago with Oncor Electric Delivery in north Dallas and recently was promoted to an electrician level II position at the company. More details inside.
Pharr- The Pharr City Commission approved a Policing Agreement between the City of Pharr and Vanguard Academy for the “School Resource Officer Program” 2022-2023. This Memorandum of Understanding between Vanguard Academy and the Pharr Police Department will allow for collaboration in the creation of a School Resource Officer Program. This partnership is intended to assign Pharr Police Officers at Vanguard Academy Schools to provide policing services. More details inside.
