Anyone who knows Tony Aguirre knows that he is true public servant. For years he has served the City of McAllen in many aspects. One of those that has helped McAllen grow is his contribution of time and knowledge in infrastructure.

Extraordinary! McAllen ISD proudly announced that Paloma Juarez, a senior participating in the International Baccalaureate program, has secured an early seat in the incoming freshmen class and is fully committed to Emory University as a member of the graduating class of 2025!
The journey for Paloma officially began during her junior year in high school as she and her peers started the college exploration and application process. Paloma factored in many components such as academic curriculum and campus environment to create her college list. As she took a personal inventory, she focused on her strengths in the biological sciences and her desire to enroll in a university that embraced a collaborative atmosphere for its students. The good news is that the U.S. Small Business Administration officially opened the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) application portal since April 8, 2021 for operators of live venues, live performing arts organizations, museums and movie theatres, as well as live venue promoters, theatrical producers and talent representatives to apply for critical economic relief, as those eligible entities are some of the first that had to shutter their doors a year ago in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Harlingen Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) is currently soliciting sealed proposals from qualified private development firms for the purchase or lease and development of property located at the intersection of Dixieland Road and Bass Pro Drive (site). Great news from Mission! A 3,400-acre master planned community in the Rio Grande Valley took a big step forward recently when the City of Mission, Mission Economic Development Corporation, and Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) Board transferred beneficiary ownership of TIRZ funds designated for 180 acres of the property to Killam Development. The TIRZ will invest approximately $13 million for Phase I of the development, funds that will be used to build new roads, water, and wastewater infrastructure. Killam Development is creating a “live, work, play” lifestyle community that will feature walkable neighborhoods, walking trails and park space, as well as connections to entertainment and commercial districts and education centers.
¡Adiós, pero no para siempre! Miguel Conchas, longstanding President and CEO of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce announced his intention to retire from his current position to the members of the Board of Directors at their regular meeting held. Board Chairman Cliffe Killam stated that an interim CEO will be appointed internally within the next thirty days to assist with transition and to manage the Chamber affairs upon Conchas’ departure.
