PSJA Southwest ECHS Theatre Troupe named UIL One-Act Play State Champions

District, community to celebrate them this Thursday with a special Last Curtain Call

PHARR – The PSJA Southwest Early College High School Theatre Troupe recently competed at the UIL 5A One-Act Play State Contest and were named State Champions for their performance of Rabbit Hole

“Congratulations to our amazing high school students and directors for earning the highest honors at the state level,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “We commend you for your work and dedication, especially during this unprecedented school year.” 

The PSJA Southwest ECHS Theatre Troupe cast and crew is comprised of: Vera Alonzo, Issak Garza, Iza Garza, Zarina Garza, Katia Luna, Katherine Marin, Christopher Nicanor, Mia Pulido, Sofia Pulido, Anaelda Ramos, Allen Santa Maria, and Joy Williams.

“We are blessed and humbled to accomplish this tremendous feat for our school and district,” said PSJA Southwest ECHS Director Sergio Saucedo. “During this time of uncertainty and unknown, this achievement directly reflects the work ethic of our students and directors. We are grateful for PSJA ISD and the community support we have received.”

Due to this tremendous achievement, PSJA School Board President Jorge Zambrano commended the troupe for making campus and district history. 

“We are so proud of our students and their directors for representing PSJA ISD and our region at the highest level, state! This has been an unprecedented year in so many ways, it truly fills our hearts with joy to see our students continue shining. Way to go PSJA Javelinas,” said Zambrano. 

At PSJA ISD, students can participate in numerous award-winning fine arts programs including Band, Orchestra, Choir, Jazz Band, Mariachi, Dance, Arts and Theatre. For more information about opportunities available at PSJA ISD, individuals can visit www.psjaisd.us/whypsja
