PSJA SCHOOL BOARD APPROVES $3K STIPEND FOR EMPLOYEES, PERCENT SALARY INCREASE

PHARR – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District employee compensation plan remains the highest among neighboring districts with PSJA teachers being some of the best paid in the region.  

The PSJA School Board voted to provide the following compensation plan for the 2021-2022 School Year during their regularly scheduled board meeting of August 9, 2021:

  • A 2.5% increase to teachers and librarians with 1-9 years, and a 3% salary increase for teachers and librarians with 10-plus years of experience. They will receive a $300 supply stipend and a $300 vaccine stipend if they have received the COVID-19 vaccine. 
  • Non-Teaching Professionals, Paraprofessionals and Auxiliary staff members will also receive a 3% increase from the midpoint, plus a $300 vaccine stipend if they have received the COVID-19 vaccine. 

In addition, all PSJA ISD Employees will receive a one-time $3,000 retention stipend to be paid in August 2021 and the district will continue to pay 100% of health care benefits for all employees.

“We appreciate the hard work, dedication and loyalty of our PSJA ISD employees,” said PSJA School Board President Jorge Zambrano. “As a school board, we wanted to make sure all personnel were compensated for their efforts. PSJA has historically provided a salary raise every year for over 20 years, and this year is not an exception. This has been one of the most challenging years in education, and we thank you for your perseverance and resiliency!” 

PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo, thanks the district’s administrative team, especially the Business Services and Human Resources Departments, for working together to create this competitive compensation plan for PSJA. 

“We are grateful for our PSJA Team who has given so much to our students and families,” said Dr. Arredondo. “This has been a year like no other and it was imperative that we continued to provide the most competitive salaries for our staff, so they could continue the great work of educating and supporting our future.”
