PHARR – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) Superintendent Dr. Daniel P. King was awarded the Leopoldo “Polo” Palacios Award during the City of Pharr’s State of the City Address held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019.
The City of Pharr’s Leopoldo “Polo” Palacios Award is annually bestowed upon an individual in our community who embodies the qualities of service, leadership and pride. According to Dr. Eliza Alvarado the Region One Coordinator for the Office of College and Career Readiness who presented the award, she was honored to help recognize Dr. King for his relentless commitment to education and innovation.
“His leadership and vision built a machine of innovators and educators willing to go the extra mile for our children, willing to believe that the stereotype was not real, and breaking the barriers of what so long had been a reminder of what we couldn’t do,” said Dr. Alvarado.
For Dr. King, receiving the award named after such a hardworking individual was a humbling experience and came as a surprise.
“I accept this award as an honor for the whole team who has worked with me over the last 12 years,” said Dr. King as he received the award. “I am humbled, what an honor to receive this award connected to two men [Palacios and Mayor Hernandez] who I admire very much, and without whom we could not have accomplished so much.”
