Pharr, Texas – In an effort to help end childhood poverty, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA) in partnership with Walgreens, hosted a districtwide fundraiser in support of National Red Nose Day this May. With the help of hundreds of students and staff, PSJA ISD raised $2,160 that will be donated to the national campaign.
First launched in the US in 2015, Red Nose Day is a fundraiser dedicated to ending child poverty, both in the US and in some of the poorest communities in the world. The money raised by Red Nose Day in the US has benefited programs for children and young people in all 50 states and in 34 countries internationally.
As part of the districtwide fundraiser, students and staff from 22 PSJA ISD schools helped sell boxes containing 60 red noses sold for $1. Numerous PSJA Departments also participated, helping raise a total of $2,160.
Due to their efforts, three schools were recognized by PSJA ISD and Walgreens for going above and beyond by each raising $420. Schools recognized included: Carman Anaya Elementary in Pharr, Doedyns Elementary in San Juan and Guerra Elementary in Alamo.
“We were very excited for this fundraiser,” said Carmen Anaya Elementary Principal Joe Garza. “It was a great way for our students and staff to give back to the community. We know it’s a worthy cause and our entire campus was excited to participate.”
