PHARR – The PSJA Southwest Early College High School student produced feature film “Time for a Champion” is now available on Streaming Video on Demand on Vimeo.
“Time for a Champion” is an original screenplay written by Barry Glasser, an English department faculty member at PSJA Southwest ECHS with a long and diversified film industry background. The film first debuted as part of a special screening at the PSJA Southwest ECHS Auditorium on April 8, 2017.
The movie was directed and filmed by more than 80 PSJA Southwest students and produced by Glasser and Sarvelio Carreon, both faculty and founders of the student-led PSJA Southwest Film Society.
Through an inspirational sports story, the film depicts the life of a homeless Latina girl who overcomes a background of neglect and extreme poverty and shows the impact of bullying among students.
According to Glasser, this is the first time that a feature-length film produced by a high school has ever been available on a streaming video platform.
“The fact that no high school had ever produced a full-length feature film, and secured distribution, made us even more determined to attempt this,” said the English teacher. “The impossible has now become possible as we share our film with audiences, and work on our new production.”
The film can be rented or purchased through Vimeo. In addition to the movie being produced by students at the campus, Glasser shared that students in the PSJA Southwest Marketing Program have also been crucial to promoting the film on social media.
“There teaser trailers now posted on Facebook and Instagram, were produced by our own student-led PSJA Southwest Marketing team,” said Glasser. “They have been working with the distributor Worldwide Motion Pictures Corp. to help us create and execute the campaign.”
