PHARR, Texas – Student Council leaders from all six high schools in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) hosted the 10th Annual PSJA Track of Hope Cancer Awareness & Relief Walk on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at PSJA Stadium. The student-led initiative is dedicated to raising awareness about cancer and supporting those affected by the disease by bringing together students, families, and community members for a night of remembrance, hope, and solidarity.

Through informative student-led booths, attendees learned about the different types of cancers that impact thousands of lives each year. The event also featured a Memory Garden where participants could write special messages honoring cancer fighters, survivors, or those who have lost their battle.

As part of the event’s mission to give back, 10 PSJA Family members battling cancer were each presented with a $1,000 donation to provide financial relief in their fight against the disease. The funds donated were raised entirely by students through t-shirt sales and monetary donations.

The evening included special remarks from PSJA ISD’s Board of Trustees President Diana Serna and PSJA ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias, who commended the students for their leadership and commitment to making a difference in their community. They also reminded the Track of Hope recipients that they are not alone in their fight.

“Here at PSJA, we are a family,” said PSJA Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias during his remarks. “PSJA is strong, our recipients are not alone, and we are always here to lend a helping hand.”

Additionally, the PSJA student leaders took turns reading special poems as the letters H-O-P-E were illuminated by candlelight, symbolizing strength, resilience, and support of the PSJA Family. To close the night, the 10 Track of Hope honorees led the way, taking a lap around the PSJA Stadium followed by an army of supporters, reinforcing that they are not alone.

“Being a part of this event has been an incredibly meaningful experience,” said PSJA Southwest Early College High School Track of Hope Chairman Logan Andrino. “We see people not just from our district but from everywhere coming out to show support, and I think that’s a really beautiful thing that this event brings many people together every year.”
