PHARR – PSJA North Early College High School Senior Idalia Meza was recently awarded the highly coveted Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. The senior will receive up to $32,000 for her post-secondary education as well as ongoing training and development opportunities, mentorship from sitting public school educators, and participation in a statewide aspiring teachers network facilitated by the Raise Your Hand Texas Foundation.
To remain eligible for the $8,000 4-year scholarship, students must comply with numerous requirements which include: enrolling full-time in a program that would lead to a teaching certificate; maintain a 3.0-grade point average; participate in Raise Your Hand activities; and, receive a letter of recommendation from IHE program leaders.
As one of the first recipients of the scholarship, Meza went through a rigorous selection process that included an interview and presenting a lesson plan to a panel of judges. The senior looks forward to attending the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley this fall.
