PHARR, Texas – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) School Board of Trustees approved a longevity stipend increase for employees with 30 or more years of service in the district during a regular school board meeting held Monday, May 22, 2023.

“The teaching profession has never been for the faint of heart, but the current state of public education puts more pressure on teachers than ever before. As district leaders, we often discuss teacher and staff shortages and burnout.  We know teachers that stay do it because they love their students and their school community,” said PSJA School Board President Dr. Cynthia Gutierrez. “At PSJA we want to continue building an environment where teachers are respected, supported, challenged, and feel like they truly matter; by implementing forward-thinking strategies such as increasing their longevity pay, we want to show them our appreciation and gratitude for their loyalty to our district. We hope to add more longevity levels to the existing table so that, in the future, we can compensate 10, 15, and 20+ years of service as well.”

The longevity stipend increase earned will be paid to qualifying auxiliary, paraprofessionals, and professional employees at the end of the year beginning their 30th year and continue thereafter in 5-year increments.
