PSJA ISD ‘s Transportation Department ranks among Top 100 Fleets in the Nation for eighth consecutive year

PHARR – For the eighth consecutive year, the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD Transportation Department has been ranked among the Top 100 Fleets in the nation as per Government Fleet, a leading transportation industry magazine and its ranking of The 100 Best Fleets in North AmericaPSJA ISD was the only school district in the Rio Grande Valley recognized.

The Program recognizes and rewards peak performing fleet operations in North America. The recognition program identifies and encourages ever-increasing levels of performance improvement within the fleet industry. 

The fleets are chosen based on a variety of documented criteria, including accountability, use of technology and information, staff development and training, quick and efficient repair turnaround, and resource stewardship.

With 152 buses utilized throughout the school year, PSJA’s Transportation Department is one of the largest in the Rio Grande Valley. For several years now, the goal of the department has been to increase the efficiency of the routes by implementing new devices and software that help cut overall travel costs. 

For the last eight years, the PSJA Transportation Dept. has been ranked among the Top 100 fleets in the Nation.

“Our mighty PSJA Transportation Department always focuses on efficiency, performance, and above all, the safety and wellness of the 1,400 souls they provide transit to on a daily basis,” said PSJA Chief of Operations Nick Martinez. “Their energy ignites the Spirit of PSJA and has led to having national recognition for eight years in-a-row.  I asked our Transportation Director Fernando Guajardo what makes his Team so special, and he simply and humbly replied, ‘our giving hearts Sir, all 178 employees’ giving their heart for our students.'”

The support, training and high expectations for the PSJA Transportation Department team is reflected on these achievements.

“I commend the work of our Transportation Department who ensure they safely transport our students to and from school, sometimes multiple times a day,” PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge Arredondo said. “It is no easy task to make a fleet of our size work so seamlessly, thank you for your work and congratulations!”
