ALAMO, Texas – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) celebrated the grand opening of its newest early childhood education campus, the PSJA Alamo Building Blocks Academy, with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Sept. 18, 2024. The academy located in Alamo, TX is the district’s second campus exclusively dedicated to providing early childhood education for students in Pre-K 3 through Kindergarten.
PSJA ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias, spoke at the event, highlighting the district’s dedication to fostering Cradle to College education, with a strong emphasis on early learning.
“At PSJA ISD, we recognize the profound impact that quality early childhood education has on a child’s future,” said Dr. Elias. “When it’s about students, PSJA answers and that’s what it’s about it’s about making sure that our students receive that quality education at a young age, that is what we truly mean when we say opportunities for all.”
The PSJA Alamo Building Blocks Academy is the latest addition to PSJA ISD’s renowned early childhood program, which continues to gain recognition for its innovative approaches and dedication to student success. The academy promotes play-based learning and fosters an environment where students can build their educational foundation with a true connection to the world around them through the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Principal Denisse Garcia spoke about the impact that the new facility will have not only on her students but for the community. “This is such a proud moment for all of us as we expand to serve the community of Alamo in our continuing effort to provide the highest quality of education for our youngest learners,” said Garcia. “We understand the foundation of lifelong learning is laid in these formative years, which is why we focus on 21st-century learning through the Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that all students are prepared for future success, not just academically, but also as global citizens.”
City of Alamo and State Representatives from the Office of Congressman Vicente Gonzalez and Senator Morgan LaMantia also addressed attendees, emphasizing the importance of investing in early education and the impact of educating students at a young age for long-term community success.
The new facility will serve dozens of local students, offering a nurturing environment with specialized play-based learning activities designed to foster cognitive, social, and emotional growth during critical developmental years. The addition of this new campus further strengthens PSJA ISD’s role as a leader in early education within the Rio Grande Valley.
Following the remarks, the ribbon was officially cut, symbolizing the opening of a new chapter in early childhood education for the district. Tours of the facility were given, allowing attendees to experience the interactive classrooms, creative learning spaces, and advanced technology that will enhance the students’ educational experience.
