PHARR, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) Principal Susana Arredondo was named a Semi-Finalist for the 2023 H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards. 

Created in 2002, the H E B Excellence in Education Awards are designed to honor outstanding public school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. Through this program, H E B seeks to pay tribute to those educators who go the extra mile each and every day to serve their students and their communities and who inspire others to do the same. 

Arredondo is currently a principal at John McKeever Elementary in Alamo. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2004 and a Master of Educational Administration in 2014. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Throughout her educational journey at PSJA ISD, Arredondo has served as a mathematics teacher, math coordinator, assistant principal, and principal. 

“H‑E‑B Education in Excellence Awards are designed to honor outstanding public-school professionals and to thank them for their dedication and commitment,” said Principal Arredondo. “Out of 1,900 educators, I am grateful to be part of the elite few 50 principals and 150 teachers who were selected as semi-finalists. Learning that I have been recognized for the love of my profession is very humbling and inspires me to continue making a difference in our community.”
