PHARR – As a way to kickoff National Library Week (April 8-14), Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD is proud to announce that Librarian Lisa Hernandez was recently named a recipient of the “Outstanding Service in Library Instruction Award” by the Texas Library Association.

The Texas Library Association was established in 1902 to promote, support, and improve library services in Texas. Each year, the association honors individuals, organizations, and projects most worthy of recognition for having advanced the cause of Texas libraries. The Outstanding Services to Libraries Award is given to individuals of outstanding advocacy in creating activities that advance library services, develop and promote library policies and standards and successfully advocate the library to the community.

As the librarian for the PSJA College Career & Technology Academy and PSJA Ballew Early College High School, Hernandez takes pride in assisting high school students every day. Her work in developing an online e-Research Plan Portfolio that enhances the performance of dual-credit students when conducting and writing research assignments, made her a deserving candidate for the recognition.

“Since 2008 I have been working on developing my E-Research Plan Porfolio with the purpose in mind to help high school students transition to college level research,” said Hernandez who has worked for PSJA ISD for 15 years. “I have presented the portfolio on a local, regional, state, and national level via conferences and webinars.”

According to Hernandez who is also a proud PSJA alumna, she feels honored to have been recognized for her dedication.

As a certified teacher and librarian, I am very honored and happy that both of my professions have been highlighted and recognized on a state level in one award,” Hernandez said.
