EDINBURG, Texas – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) hosted their annual Staff Convocation on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Bert Ogden Arena, gathering nearly 5,000 employees to kick off the 2024-2025 school year.
The event theme, PSJA All-Stars, channeled the competitiveness and team building of the district’s educational and extracurricular programs. The All-Star staff members sat with their schools aligned to their feeder patterns turning the arena sections into seas of maroon, grey, green, and maroon.
The event highlighted the district’s successful programs and the many extracurricular opportunities for students in addition to setting the vision and tone for the new school year. PSJA staff enjoyed the various student performances and listened attentively to the motivational speeches given by district leaders.
PSJA ISD Superintendent Dr. Alejandro Elias expressed his appreciation to all staff members for playing a crucial role in the education of all students.
“At PSJA ISD, we turn dreams into degrees, and we are proud to lead in offering life-changing opportunities for ALL. We are playing to win,” said Dr. Elias. “This is possible because of every single person in this arena that plays a vital role for student success. “Thank you everyone for all you do for our students.”
PSJA ISD Board President Carlos Villegas thanked district staff for their commitment and passion for educating students.
“It takes everyone working together to be successful from our teachers who are near and dear to my heart to custodians, security staff, police officers, people in nutrition, transportation, paraprofessionals, counselors, administrators, and our Leadership,” said Mr. Villegas. “All of us play a vital role. And that is why, it takes a family, and we are a family.”
Attendees of the event also included South Texas College President Dr. Ricardo Solis, Texas Association of School Boards, Victor Garza with the Office of Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, the Texas Association of School Boards and PSJA Education Foundation.
This year’s keynote speaker, Fabian Ramirez, is a renowned national figure whose personal mission is to reach as many educators as possible with his powerful message. Spirit leads from various campuses played a key role in ensuring staff members were energized and ready for the new school year. Lots of cheering and excitement filled the arena.
While teachers and staff returned to work this week, the first day of school for all PSJA ISD students is Monday, August 26,2024.
