PHARR, Texas – The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District (PSJA ISD) celebrated the opening of its newest early childhood education campus, the PSJA Buckner Building Blocks Academy, with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Friday, September 19, 2025. Located in Pharr, the academy is the district’s third campus exclusively dedicated to providing an early childhood education for students in Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4.
PSJA ISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Alejandro Elias highlighted the district’s commitment to providing a high-quality cradle to college education, with a strong emphasis on early childhood learning.
“PSJA is about opportunities and innovation to better serve our students. These academies build the foundational skills our little ones need so that by the time they reach testing grades, they’re well-prepared and set up for success. At the end of the day, it’s always about our students and making sure they thrive,” said Dr. Elias.
The PSJA Buckner Building Blocks Academy is recognized for its innovative approaches and dedication to student success. The academy promotes play-based learning and fosters an environment where students can build their educational foundation with a true connection to the world around them. Through the PSJA Global Success Framework which integrates academic excellence with emotional intelligence, character development and global citizenship, students are empowered to strengthen their real-world problem-solving skills.
PSJA Buckner Building Blocks Academy Principal Denise Garcia also shared a special message, stressing the importance of the new campus for young learners.
“We gather with pride and joy to celebrate the grand opening of our third PSJA Building Blocks Academy. This is a remarkable milestone for our district, our community, and above all, for our youngest learners. When we embarked on this journey, our vision was simple but impactful, to provide each child with the best possible start in their educational journey,” shared Principal Garcia.
The new facility welcomes dozens of students each day, providing a supportive setting with specialized learning experiences that nurture cognitive, social, and emotional development during their formative years. With this addition, PSJA ISD expands early education opportunities for children in the Rio Grande Valley.
Following the remarks, the ribbon was officially cut, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the district’s early childhood education program. Guests were then invited to tour the facility, where they explored interactive classrooms, imaginative learning spaces, and state-of-the-art technology designed to enrich students’ educational journey.
