PHARR – A Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) graduate was one of 10 seniors from across the Rio Grande Valley named a recipient of the Border Patrol Youth of the Year Award and a $1,500 scholarship for her post-secondary education. PSJA Early College High School Graduate Melissa Lugo was honored at the Border Patrol “Head of the Class/Youth of the Year” Ceremony at the Pharr Events Center held May 30, 2019.
Lugo was part of the PSJA ISD Early College Program and Dual Language Enrichment Program. She received an Associate of Science in Mathematics from South Texas College a week before obtaining her high school diploma. She was also among three PSJA ECHS seniors who had the opportunity to graduate at the Destination Imagination Global Finals competition held in Kansas City.
This year, Border Patrol announced that for the first time, in the 15-year history of the program, they were able to give $1,500 in monetary scholarships to 10 seniors selected as Youth of the Year Recipients. Congratulations Melissa!
