PHARR – Students in a 4th grade class at Berta Palacios Elementary in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD (PSJA ISD) recently won 2nd place in the Texas Association of School Board’s (TASB) 2021 Student Video Contest.

The TASB Video contest was open to all Texas elementary and secondary public-school students. As part of the contest, students had to create a short video showcasing resilience within Texas public schools. First and second place prizes were awarded in three school categories: Elementary, Middle, and High School.

“We commend the initiative our students and faculty took to create this video and participate in this state contest,” said PSJA Superintendent Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo. “It is a great rendition of what we have experienced this past year and how we continue to provide great learning opportunities at Palacios and all of our PSJA schools!”

According to Palacios Elementary Principal Michelle Fox-Cardoza the video was led by 4th grade students in Ms. Gloria Covarrubia’s class.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Gloria Covarrubia and her amazing group of students for this recognition! I am very proud of the initiative taken by this class led by their teacher as they embraced a global pandemic, faced obstacles and challenges with virtual instruction, and exceeded expectations of learning in the 21st century,” said Fox-Cardoza.
