SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD educator, Miguel Santos, was recently named the 2018-19 RGV Lead Teacher of the Year by the Rio Grande Valley Linking Economic & Academic Development (RGV LEAD) organization during the RGV Lead Regional Conference held Dec. 7 at the Hilton Garden Inn-South Padre Island.
RGV Lead develops and manages collaborative projects that bring employers and educators together to help students set and achieve college-and-career goals.
Santos, who is a PSJA Career & Technology Education & Advanced Manufacturing Instructor, was nominated by PSJA CTE Director Griselda Quintanilla for his ongoing dedication to his students.
“Mr. Santos is a great and innovative educator that uses his current knowledge and participates in additional professional development programs to always be on the cutting edge,” wrote Quintanilla in her nomination. “He is always wanting his students to learn all the best skills and techniques to better prepare them not only for college, but their future careers.”
According to Quintanilla, in addition to teaching, Santos has served as a coach and mentor to two PSJA ISD high school robotics teams for the past three years.
“I would like to thank PSJA ISD for providing me with the opportunity to be here and accept this award,” said Santos who has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas-Pan American and is a Certified Engineering teacher at PSJA. “I appreciate all of the support I have received throughout the years to help expand and advocate for our Engineering, Robotics, and Manufacturing programs.”
