PSJA ISD Breaks District Record for Number of Prestigious Dell Scholarship Recipients

PHARR – Breaking a district record, 18 high school seniors in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD were recently named recipients of the nationally renowned and highly competitive Dell Scholarship. All seniors from PSJA ECHS, PSJA Memorial ECHS, PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM ECHS, and PSJA Southwest ECHS will receive $20,000, a brand new laptop, and textbook credits to complete their post-secondary education.

First started in 2004, the Dell Scholars program is an initiative of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation that recognizes students who have overcome significant obstacles to pursue their education. The program places greater emphasis on the student’s determination to succeed, and not just academic record and test scores. 

In addition to graduating from high school in May, most of the PSJA recipients will be graduating with an Associate Degree from South Texas College. The 2019 PSJA ISD Dell Scholars are as follows:

  • Samuel Fernandez- Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Denise Buitron – Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies

  • Angelica Garza- Associate Degree in Mathematics
  • Isela Correa- Associate Degree in Mathematics
  • Xitlatli Sanchez- Associate Degree in Mathematics
  • Alma Albertos – Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Olga Perez- Associate Degree in Mathematics

PSJA Memorial Early College High School in Alamo 

  • Guadalupe Abrego – Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies
  • Amy Huang – Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Science
  • Owen Ochoa – Associate Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Science
  • Jennifer Crossman – STC Core Complete

To be eligible for the Dell Scholarship, candidates must be participating in an approved college readiness program in grades 11 and 12, plan to enroll full-time at an accredited higher education institution in the pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree, qualify for the Pell Grant, and demonstrate financial need. Congratulations students!
