ALAMO, Texas – Marcia R. Garza Elementary in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD hosted a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for its newly developed fitness area, created through the Project Fit America Program, on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in Alamo, Texas.
The campus celebrated the grand opening of its new health and fitness initiative, which includes a dedicated fitness area designed to support student wellness. The event featured a dedication ceremony and a live fitness demonstration led by students.

“Our students deserve every opportunity to grow strong, stay active, and build healthy habits,” said Marcia Garza Elementary Principal Marissa Santoy. “This new fit pit gives us a meaningful way to promote wellness, and I am grateful to our partners who helped make this possible for our school community.”
The upgrades were made possible through a $26,000 grant from The Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation. The grant provides outdoor fitness equipment, curriculum materials, and on-site teacher training. The Project Fit America program strengthens physical education by giving students interactive tools that support daily activity, skill development, and long-term health.

Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation representative Alondra Vasquez added, “Our mission at the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation is to strengthen the health and quality of life of the Rio Grande Valley. Supporting Project Fit allows us to give schools the tools and equipment that help kids stay active, play outdoors, and build healthy habits for life.”

This grant has provided Marcia Garza Elementary students an opportunity to prioritize their health. The new fit pit area, where students can do sit-ups, pull-ups, and rope climbs, will support their overall wellness and help them continue to learn, grow, and stay fit.
