PSJA Brothers sign to play baseball at the collegiate level

PHARR – Emilio and Diego Duque, 4-year Varsity Lettermen for the PSJA Southwest Early College HS Javelina Baseball Team have signed a letter of intent to play at Texas A&M International University during a special ceremony at the school Friday, May 7. They are both the first players from PSJA Southwest to sign their National Letter of Intent to play baseball at the Collegiate level.

Both students play for the Javelinas, but attend sister-school PSJA T. Jefferson T-STEM Early College High School.  

Emilio Duque has led the team as one of the most well-rounded and most recognized pitchers to come out of PSJA Southwest. He has been recognized by the coaching staff as Pitcher of the Year for three consecutive years and has received multiple All-District Selections as a Pitcher and as a position player. Emilio recorded over 100 strikeouts for this season and is the only Pitcher from PSJA Southwest to ever accomplish this feat. He also ranked in the Top 5 in the State of Texas for strikeouts among Pitchers in Class 5A.

Diego Duque has led the Javelinas baseball team in both offense and defense. He has been recognized by the coaching staff as Offensive Player of the Year for three consecutive years, as well as the player with the highest batting average. On the defensive side, he has led the team in outfield assists from his Centerfield position. He was also part of our pitching staff, which has led the Javelinas to new heights. He has also received numerous All-District Selections as an Outfielder. 

Academically, both Emilio and Diego are Honor Roll students, who will be graduating with 48 college hours. They are also part of the district’s Dual Language Enrichment Program and will be graduating with a Bi-Literacy Seal on his diploma. They are members of the Mu Alpha Theta Club and participated in other scholastic activities. While at Texas A&M International University, they both plan to major in Kinesiology with a minor in Business.
