SAN JUAN – PSJA Early College High School Senior Devon De Leon signed a letter of intent to play baseball for the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio.Â
The signing was celebrated today, Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 am at the school’s main gym.
Devon started playing baseball for the Boys & Girls Club when he was 6 years old as a 1st basemen. The year after that, he started to select travel baseball. Some of the teams already had a 1st baseman so he was willing to play any position available. He decided to take a chance and play the catcher’s position.Â
Through the years, Devon has played on several travel teams such as the Diablitos, Team Citius, Prospects, ABC National Force, Banditos Scout and was selected to represent South Texas on the USSSA All-American team in Florida.
At the age of 15, his Bears Coach Marco Guajardo put his trust in Devon behind the plate with his varsity squad. He then received several recognitions and awards such as All-District Newcomer of the Year, All-District MVP, All-District Offensive MVP, and All-Area First Team Catcher.
Devon is not just a player, he also likes to give back by helping in autism walks, special needs camps and is a trainer for future baseball players.
He is a proud Bear and is ready to take his game to the next level at the University of Incarnate Word where he has the opportunity to start as an incoming freshman.
Devon plans to further his education and major in Biology and minor in Mathematics. He wants to become an Anesthesiologist.
