EDINBURG, Texas – Hidalgo County Tax Assessor-Collector Pablo “Paul” Villarreal Jr. has implemented new requirements for submitting change of address forms on motor vehicle records.
Applicants requesting a Change of Address to correct an address on a motor vehicle record must do so by using Texas Department of Motor Vehicle form VTR-146 “Change of Address for Texas Vehicle Registration.” The applicant may also request this by submitting the county portion of the TXDMV form VTR-39A “Vehicle Registration Renewal Notice.”
Customers will now be required to submit their updated identification before being allowed to change their address.
“Customers are required to register their vehicles in the county that they reside. It is our responsibility to verify that the new requested address change matches the applicant’s identification,” Villarreal said.
Below is a list of acceptable identification documents that can be submitted:
- A driver’s license or state identification certificate issued by a state or territory of the United States.
- United States or foreign passport.
- U.S. Military identification card.
- U.S. Department of Homeland Security identification document.
- U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services identification document.
- U.S. Department of State identification document.
- North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) identification.
- Identification issued under a Status of Forces Agreement.
The acceptable identification documents listed above must include:
- a photo of the applicant
- a unique identification number; and,
- an expiration date.
