Business Email Compromise

Business Email Compromise is the most common method of Corporate Account Takeover.  This is when an unknown source gathers enough information from your email account to successfully have funds sent to them. Vantage Bank will never email you asking for your account number, login information or any personal data. Vantage Bank is committed to keeping our customers informed as the cyber security risks evolve. This is the first of a three part series and we will continue with future emails regarding Phishing and Malware.

We have been seeing a recent increase in Business Email Compromise, specifically in the form of wire transfers and email hacking. Here are a few tips on how you can protect yourself:

·         Never click on suspicious links.

·         Only submit sensitive information to websites that use encryption.

·         Always “Sign Out” or “Log Off” of password protected websites when finished to prevent unauthorized access.

·         Lock your workstation anytime you step away from your desk.

·         Create unique and unpredictable passwords with a combination of lowercase letters, capital letters, numbers, and special characters.

·         Always confirm the validity of the sender and the request before providing any personal information.
