February 19, 2025 – President Donald J. Trumptook to TRUTH Social on Wednesday to deliver a scathing critique of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of manipulating the U.S. into sending $350 billion in aid for a war Trump claims was unwinnable and unnecessary. Trump criticized former President Joe Biden’s previous handling of the war effort and questioned the disproportionate financial burden placed on the United States compared to Europe.

“Think of it,” Trump wrote, “a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion to go into a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start.” He said that the U.S. has spent $200 billion more than Europe, arguing that the conflict is far more important to Europe than to America and that Biden failed to demand financial equalization from European allies.

Trump’s remarks reflect ongoing Republican criticismof Biden’sUkraine policy. During his administration, the U.S. provided extensivemilitary and financial support to Kyiv. Many conservatives, including some in Congress, have questioned whether continued assistance was in America’s best interest, especially as economic concerns mount at home.

Allegations of Missing Funds and Zelenskyy’s Leadership

One of the most controversial claims in Trump’s post was his assertion that Zelenskyy admitted that half of the U.S. aid is “missing.”  Concerns over corruption and accountability in Ukraine have been debated in Washington. The Ukrainian government has taken steps to combat corruption, but critics argue that oversight of U.S. funds remains insufficient.

Trump also blasted Zelenskyy’s leadership, labeling him a “dictator without elections”and stating that he is “very low in Ukrainian polls.” Zelenskyy, who came to power in 2019, had postponed Ukraine’s 2024 presidential election due to the ongoing war, a decision that has drawn both support and criticism internationally. Trump warned that if Zelenskyy does not act quickly, “he is not going to have a country left.”

The president did not stop at criticism—he reiterated his longstanding claim that he alone can end the war through negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something all admit only ‘TRUMP,’ and the Trump Administration, can do,” he stated.

One thing is clear: Trump’s influence on U.S. foreign policy and global diplomacyis as strong as ever, and his latest remarks signal that Ukraine aid will be a defining issuein this phase of his presidency.
