Peñitas, Texas — City of Peñitas officials have learned from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) that it will begin working on an overlay project on US 83 with eastbound traffic being reduced to one lane from FM 2221 (Jara Chinas Rd.) to Showers Rd beginning on Monday, January 7, 2019.
“This project is beginning as our students, teachers, parents, and the community come back from the holiday break and may cause some delays when traveling to and through the affected area,” said Mayor Rigo Lopez. “We ask all drivers traveling through this area to exercise caution, obey traffic signs, and plan ahead to allow for additional time as they travel to their destination,” he continued.
TxDOT has been actively working on important infrastructure road projects throughout the western Hidalgo County area and ask the public to be cautious and mindful while driving through construction zones.
“We want our citizens to plan ahead and make sure they give themselves enough time in the mornings and evenings as they travel through the affected areas, especially given the fact that FM 2221 to Showers Rd. will be reduced to one lane,” added Peñitas City Manager Omar Romero.
