EDINBURG – Beginning Tuesday, December 7, Hidalgo County will host a series of four “Pop up” community events to step up efforts to get aid to residents who might need help, Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez said.
The first event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sullivan City Memorial Park in Precinct 3. It includes food distribution in partnership with the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley; rent or mortgage assistance; and help paying utilities in partnership with the Community Service Agency and Urban County Program.
“As we approach the holidays, we want eligible residents to receive any financial help they might need,” Judge Cortez said. “This pandemic has been a strain on many people and we have financial assistance available so our hope is that people can stop by for some food and we can let them know about any additional help they may qualify for.”
County employees will be on hand to distribute food and will provide county residents with information about rental and mortgage assistance as well as utility bills.
