City of Pharr and Partners Announced PSJA Promesas Del Valle Initiative

Pharr, TX – The City of Pharr announced the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Promesas del Valle Initiative (PSJA PVI).
Pharr Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez, San Juan Mayor San Juanita Sanchez, Alamo Mayor Diana Martinez, and Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD Superintendent Dr. Daniel King, in addition to partners representing Hidalgo County, the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley, South Texas College, Region One Education Service Center, Workforce Solutions, VIDA, Lone Star National Bank, and Doctor’s Hospital at Renaissance, among other primary partners, were in attendance and pledged their support of the Promesas initiative.
The City of Pharr is the lead agency for the Promesas initiative, which aims to seek designation as a federal promise zone.
This designation would give Federal funding priority and bring additional help to the PSJA area, to help revitalize the area, to reduce poverty and reduce unemployment, improve economic development and improve educational opportunities in the Proposed Promise Zone.
Primary partners have committed to the revitalization of the tri-city region (Pharr, San Juan, Alamo) through strategic, collaborative efforts to increase opportunities and outcomes in the areas of economic development, education, health, housing and crime reduction.
At the press conference, officials from partner organizations pledged their support to the initiative and signed a ceremonial promise.
Promise Zones are high poverty communities where the Federal Government partners with local leaders to increase, economic activity, improve educational opportunities, leverage private investment, reduce violent crime, enhance public health and address other priorities identified by the community.
