PHARR, Texas – A 14-member crew from the TxDOT Pharr District was activated to go support colleagues in north Texas, in the Fort Worth area, with winter storm response efforts. They left today and will be helping with snow and ice removal on Thursday and are expected to return home on Friday.

Before their departure, this morning there was a safety huddle to ensure that they have all of their personal protective equipment (or PPE) and to go over important safety reminders. Those reminders included looking out for each other’s personal safety, ensuring they stay hydrated and healthy and to never be afraid to call a timeout if something doesn’t seem right.

Their mission is to keep our state highways safe and open for drivers in the DFW area. Roads are a critical lifeline to medical centers and are necessary for residents to get to work and school , to grocery stores and to carry on with their daily lives.

The Pharr District sent three brine trucks, three v-box trucks that spread aggregate for traction or ice melt down material and we also sent 5 blade operators. Here at home, we still have plenty of trucks and personnel to take care of any problems in our area. TxDOT will be continuing to monitor forecasts and adjusting plans as needed.

Drivers are reminded that if they must go out in winter weather anywhere in Texas, they should always check road conditions before they head out at DriveTexas.Org or by calling 1-800-452-9292.
