WASHINGTON – The city of Pharr was awarded a federal grant of $1,475,883.99 for the hiring of “front line” firefighters, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn announced today. The funding comes through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant Program (SAFER), which aims to increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in communities.
“As our first responders are handling unprecedented crises, the federal government should make sure they have every resource they need to keep Texans safe,” said Sen. Cornyn. “I’ll continue to do everything I can to support firefighters in Pharr.”
